1921年10月，家乡遭水灾，顾正红母子等8人一路讨饭到达上海。父亲在一家油厂做工，靠挣工钱无法养活一家人。顾正红同弟妹拾煤渣、拾破烂，勉强度日。不久，二弟饥病而死。</p><p><br/></p><p> 顾正红经父亲请人说情，先后到上海日商内外棉九厂、七厂当工人。1925年2月，上海22个日本纱厂的4万多工人举行大罢工，反对日本资本家无理开除工人，顾正红参加工人纠察队。同年5月初，日本资本家撕毁协议，解散工会，停工关厂。</p><p><br/></p><p> 1925年5月15日，内外棉七厂日本资本家关闭工厂，拒发工资。工人推选5名代表向厂方交涉，日本资本家竟通知巡捕房将5名代表抓走，工人立即罢工抗议。顾正红正是在这次抗议活动中倒在血泊中。凶手内外棉副总大班元木和七厂副大班川村及其打手。5月16日下午2时，顾正红终因伤重不治，在同仁医院牺牲，年仅20岁。</p><p><br/></p><p> 顾正红故居占地面积2400平方米，由正红镇政府管理，公益性质。故居为一座普通农舍，三间座北朝南泥墙草屋，木质门窗。20世纪60年代当地政府为其母亲接建的住房为青砖青瓦房，面阔两间6.3米，进深4.8米，檐高2.2米，脊高3.95米，故居门前为平地。</section><section><br/></section><section> 烈士故居虽经多次维修，但最终还是倒塌了。1998年5月，江苏省人民政府拨出专款，于同年8月在原地按原貌将故居修复。现故居为土坯墙上披麦秸，面阔三间11米，进深4.8米，檐高1.96米，脊高3.95米。室内陈列着顾正红烈士生前用过的桌椅、床铺及其他遗物，墙上悬挂着烈士青少年时代的遗像和烈士当年率领工人群众同日本资本家斗争的珍贵照片。故居现为江苏省文物保护单位。</section><section><br/></section><section><p><br/></p><section
